But, read on to gain some "food for thought" anyway... My name is David Risley. I am a professional blogger who makes my entire living on the Internet. I'm not one of these guys who is going to claim I've made millions of dollars in a few months mainly because it isn't true. However, I do make a reliable six figure income online. It is enough to provide a nice, comfortable living for myself, my wife and my beautiful little girl, Elyana. I got started in this business as a hobby way back in 1997. Going to college, I made a little bit of money as a supervisor at Sam's Club. I also served a brief stint in the I.T. depatment for Citigroup (think Dilbert and you'll get the picture). As I approached college graduation, I was faced with a decision. Get a job? Or buckle down and make this whole "internet business" thing work? While all of my buddies were busy hunting for work in the world of I.T. in a bad job market, I went another way. I decided not to look for a job. I decided to go my own way. Before long, I was able to purchase my first home. It wasn't a mansion (far from it, in fact), but it was mine. Fast forward 6 or 7 years. My wife and I are living in a nicer, larger home. Again, not a mansion, but it's nice. I've got cars in the garage. Money in the bank. Having our little girl in December 2007 was a huge adjustment. This wasn't "child's play" anymore. I had this beautiful baby depending on me. Depending on income that I make on the Internet. I was making things happen, but now I HAD to make things happen! When you look into the little eyes of your own newborn, you can't help but have your entire outlook change. A wave of responsibility just hits you (thump!) in the middle of the chest. Now, try coupling this with what is happening today. While my wife and I just brought a new life into the world, the news is spreading doom and gloom. Financial crisis. Credit crisis. Talk of another Great Depression. Now, that's just not something I want to experience, right? I mean, I've got a little girl and I want her to grow up with a good lifestyle similar to what I had, or better. She's depending on me. It is easy to get worried over it. I'm not immune, either. After all, I'm human. And I'm a father. When the media and Washington start acting like the sky is falling, you take notice. You begin to wonder "what if". You begin to feel insecure. I know what its like, because I was there. When I Decided "I Quit!" In 2008, I made some changes. I began really perfecting my craft. I began to make a point to surround myself with people who have a mindset of SUCCESS. I did a lot of networking events. I traveled all across the country to attend events, not only in the world of blogging and social media, but also the world of internet marketing. I even set up my own meetup group locally in Tampa, Florida for the purpose of bringing online entrepreneurs together. And, you know what I realized about the people I hung out with? They were ACTION TAKERS. And they were very OPTIMISTIC. IT was awesome! THESE are the people I need to hang out with. They were all making money on the Internet (like I was) and they have a great attitude about it. In other words, they weren't worried about the economy. And it isn't because they were all making more money than I. Many were not. It all comes down to mindset. At that moment, I realized some things. And I made a decision. I QUIT! I quit watching the news. I quit letting other people dictate or even affect my mindset. I quit buying into the news stories written by and FOR people who are BROKE. I quit focusing on fear and falling prey to the paralysis it causes. I quit listening to the endless parade of pitiful CEOs talking about needing a bailout.
