Top Similar DownloadsDo You Remember eBay's Good Old Days? You could actually sell your stuff for a profit. Buyers simply expected good service. Listing and Selling was easy. Imagine finding another place like that. Sound good? Let me share a story with you... Steve Lindhorst From: Steve Lindhorst, (former) eBay University Instructor
Date: Dear eBay Seller, I’ll bet you can still remember the first thing you sold on eBay. (Mine was a sales brochure for 1960 Ford trucks.) Selling on eBay used to be a lot more fun. It seems like just about anything would get bids. "I once listed a bent Oneida soup spoon that I found in the road in front of eBay’s headquarters, where I worked at the time. The description stated that it had been "run over by eBay employees in luxury automobiles." I listed it to prove to one of my eBay University classes that virtually anything would sell on eBay." It got 14 bids and sold for $4.95. Those days are over. I’ll bet things have changed for you too. Sales are down. Where did all of your customers go? Take a look at this article from the New York Times: That was a year ago - what about 2009? "Last week, online retailer Ebay Inc (NASDAQ GS: EBAY) reported a 6.6 percent sales decline, citing a drop in its global e-commerce sales. “Amazon is a company that treats its customers better than EBay,” Scott Devitt, an analyst at Stifel Nicolaus & Co., told Bloomberg. “From a competitive standpoint between the two, I don’t think there’s any turning back.”"* *Source - http://www.istockanalyst.com 1/30/2009 Your Customers Are Still Shopping - But Now They're Shopping on Amazon! You can stay with eBay, or leave it, but don't ignore eBay's biggest competitor. Rather than trade one marketplace for another, I'll show you how to make more money by selling on Amazon. By selling on multiple channels you can drastically increase your online income. Imagine: If you were fishing, and you weren't catching any fish, would you keep fishing the same spot? Of course not! Do you still think of Amazon as just a place to buy books? Then you need to take another look. Many sellers are making a killing on Amazon selling the same products they sell on eBay. Ask yourself... Are your eBay sales better than they were before all of eBay's "improvements?" No paper payments allowed... ...how long will you put up with it? Last April, General Manager of eBay North America, Stephanie Tilenius, said: "expect to see bold change and faster change in the future." She also said, "by this time next year eBay.com will be unrecognizable in comparison to today." Sometimes it feels like eBay is the competition! I could go on, but I'll bet you get the point. eBay sellers have been jerked around and their sales have dwindled. "How can a seller base a business on eBay - when eBay's own business is not growing?" A while back, I bought some books at my local thrift store. I got home, found the book in completed items on eBay, and I was pretty disappointed. No bids. When I checked over at Amazon. They were listed there for twice as much! "Sure, but will they sell?" I was pretty skeptical, but I thought, "what the heck, it's free to list." Yes, it's free to list your products on Amazon. You pay nothing until you have a sale. I figured out how to list books, and within 24 hours I had my first sale - $35 for a book I'd paid fifty cents for earlier in the week. Here's another story: Last summer I found ten books at my local thrift store. They were all about golf, and in beautiful slipcases. As I looked closer, I found they were all limited editions, hand numbered. The average price was about $4 each. When I checked the books on Amazon, each book was worth over $100 with the top price being $450! Did they sell? Yep, the first one sold within a week. The buyer got a bargain at $395. (I thought I'd be generous.) Since then I've sold nearly every one for over $100. You want to hear the good part? I never had a single nasty email or complaint. No one asked me to ship it for free. No one left me negative feedback. It was like a dream compared to eBay. As an old eBayer, of course the next thing I thought was, “I’ll bet I could sell other stuff here.” Well, turns out you can sell all kinds of things on Amazon. Here is just a sample: Amazon.com Widgets Amazon.com Widgets Anyway I wanted to sell more things, and that's when I hit rough road... Since I was a National eBay University instructor, I am quite familiar with eBay's past efforts to educate their sellers. I expected Amazon to have an education program too. No such luck. To an eBay seller like you or I, Amazon.com seems like the real Amazon - a jungle. I found the terminology different, and the layout was all different, it was very confusing, and I’ve been selling online for years! I did find a hodge-podge of information on the web, but most was terribly out of date, some of it was just plain wrong, and most of the authors have no idea how to actually teach. Even Amazon's own Seller Help is all over the place. When I asked for a simple tutorial, an Amazon rep told me there is no single place to go to learn to sell on Amazon. Well now there is... So many eBay sellers were asking how to sell on Amazon. What they needed was a straightforward, plain-English guide to the basics of Amazon. I started months of research, gathering information from Amazon and eBay forums, articles on the internet, and my own experience. I even got a lot of help from Amazon Seller Support over the phone. Oh did I mention that Amazon has phone support for their sellers. In the book I'll show you how you can get them to call YOU at a time YOU specify! And you’ll get to talk to a real (understandable) human being. I took all this information, and drew on my experience teaching eBay classes to create a guide that helps eBay sellers expand (or completely move) to Amazon. It’s called: Revised for 2009 Download now! $27 “Selling on 'the River' - The eBay Seller's Guide to Selling on Amazon.com" Just updated for 2009, this book is packed with easy to follow, step-by-step instructions to get you started. The title is a nod to the eBay Discussion boards. eBay doesn't allow too much talk about their main competitor, Amazon. Guess what? As I was writing that last point, I received an email from Amazon saying I sold an cookbook I picked up at a local thrift store. I paid $2 for it. The book just sold for $149 on Amazon! Sweet! My electric and gas bill is covered this month for $2 out of my pocket! eBay expert, Skip McGrath says: “I have been selling on Amazon for two years with only minor results. Within the first 15 minutes reading Steve’s book, I saw three big things I was doing wrong. I put down the book and logged into my Amazon account and started making changes. Bang! When I woke up this morning I had a $227 sale for a product that hasn’t made a sale in over two weeks. Unlike many authors and gurus, Steve Lindhorst is the real deal. IMO, this e-book should be required reading for eBay sellers on the move.” Randy Smythe www.myblogutopia.com Jim Cockrum, Author of The Silent Sales Machine Hiding on eBay says: Steve - great job.
