The supermarkets are just as bad. They do not care for the land, they just seem to care for their profits. They seem to care about how the vegetables look, but not what it tastes like. Supermarkets do not even seem to care for their suppliers. I used to be a supplier to the biggest supermarket chain in the UK and whilst they thought my product was fantastic they wanted to drive my prices down. They do this time and time again. The only way I could continue to supply them was to cut corners to keep my costs low. How does an agri-business cut corners? They use more in-organic chemical fertilizers, they use more and stronger pesticides and herbicides, they cut labor costs. They grow mass produced, cheap and chemically treated vegetables. These are then sold on to you as fresh and lots of businesses keep adding their profit on before it gets to you. You pay for this.
