Learn how to master the basic skills of rugby that will have you go from rugby zero to rugby hero...in as little as 8 weeks! From: Peter StewardDate: Dear Fellow Rugby Player, The modern game of rugby union has become a very demanding game, placing rigorous demands on players. Despite its gruelling nature, amateur players perform poorly in rugby-specific fitness tests and this may be due predominantly to poor training habits, and lack of rugby skills training. Rugby is classed as a multi-sprint sport. Its intermittent nature demands that players generate high levels of speed and explosive power, as well as possessing the ability to recover quickly between sprints. Strength is an obvious necessity for rugby players. However, muscular size and body mass, although important is not the only goal of a rugby player; Explosive power is equally as important, not only for the development of speed and acceleration but for tackling and jumping. The game has evolved so much since turning professional, making it harder for smaller men to compete. In order to excel in the game of rugby you have to master the basic skills of rugby and improve your speed, strength and power. The correct level of fitness and combination of strength and power, together with the right mix of skills is what makes a rugby player standout from the rest. For you to be classified as a good rugby player, you have to be fit and powerful, and must have a good grounding in the basic rugby skills as well as mental skills. I've been involved in rugby coaching for the last 6 years, and one of the biggest mistakes players can make is to believe that they just have to turn-up for practice and the coach will do the rest. Rugby is a professional sport, and it is your responsibility as player to put in the time and effort to master the basics of the game and to be in the best physical condition. Absolute commitment is required if you want to be the best. You need to take your fitness as serious as an Olympic athlete and know when and where to use your brain - that makes you stand out from the rest. After 15 years of playing for some of the best rugby teams in South Africa, I know that the best way to play winning rugby is to score more tries than your opponents. To score more tries, you must win precious possession, and to win possession means you need to dominate the lineouts, the scrums, the ruck and mauls, and just about everywhere that the ball is contested. For you to be able to dominate a game, you need to be competent in the skills of evasive running, kicking, passing, catching and tackling, which are all prominent skills in rugby. Take YOUR game to the next level by improvingYOUR rugby skills and fitness levels Rugby is sports heaven to me because it has so many elements that make it exiting for players and spectators alike: fast running, towering kicking, fearless tackling and always the sense of danger, especially when huge bodies start crashing into each other. Since my involvement in rugby coaching, I've helped a lot of players to advance in the game, mostly by sharpening up their basic rugby skills. I've gained so much pleasure out of coaching and helping players that I decided to create this website to do just that - helping players to master the basic skills of rugby. It's my passion to transfer my knowledge of rugby to people new to the game and together with my experience help players better their best in all aspects of the game. Introducing...
