New Publication To launch our new website, we have published Volume I We have selected a variety of literature texts commonly studied in Grades 10 upwards, and produced for them a series of Prompts based on actual classroom work. The Prompts are not book-length study commentaries like The WordSmith Guides. Rather, they are outline resources, consisting of a range of study tasks (predominantly short pieces of writing) designed to take students into the heart of each chapter of a novel (or each scene of a play, or each poem in an anthology) as they have finished reading it. Together they help build up an overview of each of the five SCASI aspects of the whole piece of writing (Setting, Character, Action, Style and Ideas - the fundamental structure of The WordSmith Guides themselves). Here are the contents for Volume I. Volume II is in preparation. o Chinua Achebe Things Fall Apart o Jane Austen Northanger Abbey o Samuel Beckett Waiting for Godot o Joseph Conrad Heart of Darkness o George Eliot Silas Marner o F. Scott Fitzgerald The Great Gatsby o E. M. Forster A Passage to India o Robert Frost Selected Poems o Nadine Gordimer Some Monday for Sure o Thomas Hardy The Return of the Native o Mary Shelley Frankenstein o Paul Theroux The Mosquito Coast Click on the WordSmith Prompts book cover alongside to find out more.
