Sometimes, some of the weight would actually come off. But it was always waiting just around the corner to come right back on. Yes, Everyone in My Family is FAT—Except Me. For as long as they have struggled with their weights, I have been stick thin. Not too thin, mind you. Just a healthy 135 pounds at 5'7 . Plus, I'm a computer programmer. I sit around in front of a screen all day long. If anyone should be fat, it's me! (My little sister is doing the next best. She got a degree in exercise physiology and is working out constantly to keep from ballooning. Me? I just started doing push ups for fun this year. Maybe 2 or 3 times a week. From the knees. AND THAT'S IT. Regular exercise never worked well for me, because frankly I'm a bit lazy.) I'm also the healthiest in my family. Other family members have suffered from heart disease, high blood pressure, tumors, asthma, irritable bowel syndrome, ulcers, kidney stones, and more. I also know other people who are overweight, have high blood pressure, diabetes, heart disease, or cancer. (These days, who doesn't know someone with these diseases?) High blood pressure and diabetes are some of the scariest things around. I've seen first hand the physical and mental toll the fat takes on people. I've seen the damage. The pain. The aftermath. All around me family and friends have battled weight and health issues. And in some cases even lost their lives. For those who are still living... Frankly, I fear for their futures. Eventually it led to eating a lot of fresh fruits and vegetables. Without even knowing that such a thing as the raw food diet even existed. It's ironic. I remember how everyone in my family was so worried about my peculiar ways of eating. Wouldn't I get deficient in this nutrient or that? Wouldn't I get ill? Grow weak and sickly? Now I Was Learning That My “Strange” WaysWere, In Fact, Adding Years To My Life. All the while their diets were ROBBING them of their health and stealing precious years away! I literally shuddered and could almost physically feel the CLICK in my brain when I first learned about the raw food diet. It all made sense to me now. So I soaked up everything I could find on the raw food diet. I learned what makes it tick. I tweaked my own diet. I read about the many, many benefits people enjoy eating this way.
