I'm Jon Le Tocq and even though I ve never met you, the fact that you ve landed on this page tells me you re a lot like me. After all you ve come to a site called Intense Conditioning so you re not an average gym rat looking to lose a little flab in time for the beach, are you? Fed up of the same old internet programs? Let s see if we re on the same wavelength You re sick of hearing about all those build muscle, burn fat programs. You have no interest in bodybuilding and just love smashing your way through tough training sessions that the average gym goer would get sick at the thought of let alone trying for themselves! You re not interested in being a world champion or specialising in anything, but you want to have all your physical abilities pushed to the limits endurance, strength and power. You want to be what I call the complete athlete . For you, training isn t just about what you can see in the mirror, it s about going home knowing you were close to the edge (and nearly fell off a few times) but dug deep and proved that you re better than 95% of the people out there. You love proving the It can t be done crowd wrong by launching yourself at a physical challenge for no other reason than to stretch your limits and gain the personal satisfaction of doing it. Yeah, they think you re nuts but who cares? The only person you truly compete with is the devil on your shoulder who keeps challenging you to be better than yesterday .every single day! You may well be nuts, but the good news is so am I! Sprint, throw, swing, jump, jerk, snatch...keep it tough! I d rather be sprinting up and down a beach than plodding away on a fancy treadmill in a shiny gym. I d choose throwing kettlebells around outside over squeezing out rep after rep on the pec dec any day! I d rather be dragging myself out of a pool of mud or under barbed wire at Tough Guy than mincing around in the weights area staring at my biceps in the mirror. See I told you we were alike! Hopefully you ve already realised this is not going to be some kind of 3 sets of 10 program to do at the local gym. It s not going to be about bodybuilding. It s not going to focus on fat loss (although it s to be expected ) It s certainly not going to be about gym balls, pilates and core conditioning . Take on any physical challenge that questions your toughness This is about one thing and one thing only ...Intense Conditioning. Hard workouts that put you on the floor! I know that s what I want and I m fairly certain you re the same! I got sick of searching for training plans which would push my limits, only to come up with nothing but build muscle and lose fat . I have no interest in bodybuilding and no need to lose fat, and to be quite blunt, traditional gym training bores the pants off me and rarely leaves me happy with both how I perform on a sports field and how I look. When I first got into fitness, I hammered out cardio and interval programs which gave me great endurance levels but left me weak and skinny. I then went to the other extreme and followed muscle building programs. Sure, I gained size and a little strength but they left me feeling slow, lethargic and well below my physical peak. I looked better but performance didn t improve and actually got worse at times! Build muscle and burn fat is getting boring! I got very bored with doing the same exercises week in, week out, the long rest breaks and busting my nuts for a few extra pounds of muscle which served little purpose other than to bump up my food bill! I then tried to take separate strength and conditioning programs and combine the two in the same sessions. Result: Burn out and poor performance in training and games. Next I went for high volume sessions, alternated with high rep sessions. Result: Very sore muscles and subsequently crap conditioning workouts as I could barely move! I had fallen for the outdated theory of linear periodization (don t even ask!) which tells you the best way to train is to build muscle for a few weeks, then build strength, then move to power training then convert this to power endurance. Be close to your peak all year round Different training blocks may work for a Russian Olympic weight lifter whose life revolves around...
